I was gifted a waffle maker from the lovely people at VonShef and challenged to create some waffles. As I have an extremely sweet tooth of course I opted for sweet waffles!
In order to make the waffles, you will need a waffle maker and I have to say, the one I used from VonShef is absolutely brilliant. I was a bit hesitant at first as I have tried things like this in the past and normally end up making more work for myself and the results are quite poor.
This quad waffle maker is fantastic! It is so easy to use and there is barely any clean up needed afterwards either. You simply turn it on and you will see two lights (one red and one green). Once the green light turns off, it is the right temperature and you put your mixture in. The first time I used it, I did put a bit too much as it came out of one of the sides but after that it was easy to gauge how much to add. I closed the lid, timed five minutes and then they were done, simple!
Using one simple recipe you can make basic waffles to enjoy with some maple syrup or you can get more creative and try one of the four alternatives I have added at the end of this post.

Basic Waffle Recipe
Ingredients
- 130g self-raising flour
- 25g caster sugar
- 10g baking powder
- 45g butter (I used Stork)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 125ml milk
Method
- Melt the butter
- In a separate bowl add the flour, sugar and baking powder and mix together.
- Make a well in the centre of the bowl and crack in the egg.
- Then add the rest of the ingredients including the melted butter and mix well.
- Add to your heated waffle maker and cook for five minutes.

Cherry Bakewell Waffles
To make these use the basic waffle recipe but instead of using vanilla extract, use almond extract (2 tsp).
Cover the waffles with cherries and then a big squirt of cream and top with one more cherry!

Peanut and banana waffles
Use the basic waffle recipe.
Spread the waffles with peanut butter and then cover the top waffle with sliced banana. Finally drizzle with chocolate sauce.

Orange and Blackberry waffles
Make a blackberry sauce by mashing some blackberries through a sieve and adding them to a pan with 25g caster sugar. Mix on a high heat until bubbling and then add 1 tsp of corn flour and mix until you have a smooth sauce.
Use the basic recipe but swap the vanilla for 2 tsp of orange extract.
Stack up two cooked waffles and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Arrange tinned mandarin segments around the ice cream and then drizzle with the warm blackberry sauce.

Strawberry and chocolate waffles
Use the basic recipe and then put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the centre of two stacked waffles.
Slice some strawberries and arrange around the ice cream. Drizzle with chocolate sauce and enjoy!
I had so much fun using the quad waffle maker and creating these different recipes. My family are all very pleased and have loved eating their weight in waffles! If you try any of my waffle recipes then I would love to hear your thoughts. Also if you have your own recipe that you swear by then I would love to hear it.
