Bloggers Behind the Screens is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have encountered before, and learn a little more about them!
This month, we’re talking to bloggers about the very thing that makes them bloggers. Their blogs.
When did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging in April 2018, I have always loved writing and had admired ‘mum blogging’ from afar for two-ish years but never had the confidence to start but after a bit of encouragement from my family I decided why not? & set up my account on WordPress.
How did you come up with the name for your blog?
I really don’t know! Originally I was going to call myself the ‘twentysomethingmum’ as I am twentysomething, (not sure if I have to change it when I hit 30!?) but there was already an Instagram account taken so suggested ‘thetwentyishmum’ as a suggestion & thus thetwentyishmum was born!
What do you blog about? Has that changed from when you first started?
Predominantly me and my son Frankie, our days out, adventures, dummies, sleeping, etc. Since I started writing I am now due baby #2 in June so now I write pregnancy bits & I have more opportunities to write and review which I love!
Is your blog your job, your hobby or your side hustle?
My hobby, I already work in London for 3 days a week! I’ve recently done a few paid posts for Emma’s Diary & Netmums so I guess ‘side hustle’ slightly!?
What is the best thing or experience that blogging has given you?
At Christmas, we were given the opportunity to visit a few places for free close to us in exchange for a review which was magical!
What is your favourite thing in the whole world to write about?
Frankie! I could document his days all day every day!
What skills (the more unusual the better!) has blogging taught you?
Ooh… To be more fluid with my writing? Try not to ramble but I do tend to write as though I’m writing a diary which I guess people relate to more!
What is your favourite post from your blog? Give us the link and tell us why it’s your favourite.
Totally true, totally horrendous & single handed the most embarrassing moment of my life! & you’d think that would have taught me to fill my car up more.. Nope!
Have you ever been on TV or radio in your capacity as a blogger? If so, what for? If not, do you think it’s something you’d like to have a go at?
Not yet! But how fab if I did!
What is your least favourite thing about blogging? There must be something you don’t like about it…
Scheduling!! Some weeks I have no motivation/time to schedule posts on social media & for that my DA and presence drops but like anything you have to work for it!
Do you have any advice to give to anybody out there thinking of starting a blog right now?
DO IT! What are you going to lose? You have everything to gain!
Where do you do most of your blogging? Do you have a home office, are you on the sofa or do you prefer to be out and about when writing posts?
I do most of my blogging from my laptop, I hate writing on my phone or an iPad. If we are blogging a day out I write notes in my phone so I remember finer details or moments though.
Be honest. How many unwritten posts are in your drafts right now? How many are likely to see daylight?
Currently 3-4.. One has been pending for almost 8 months about my Nan and my struggle with her having dementia, it’s a hard one to condense into words!
What are you most excited about for your blog in the last six months or so of 2019? Anything awesome in the pipeline for the summer or are we forever winging it?
Baby will be here so blogging and being brutally honest about our journey when he is here, how Frankie takes to being a big brother & me a mum of two!
Finally, what is your absolute favourite thing about being a blogger?
The lovely comments I get from other Mums that can relate or recommendations! I love a good natter and it gives me the forum to do so!
