As a mum of three girls I think that it is really important to make the time to spend some quality time with each child on their own. Of course it is great to spend time together as a family, but sometimes children crave the sort of positive attention that only comes from one on one time.
Spending time with just one child can be tricky when you are busy with all that comes with family life and maybe you are even working a job too and this can be especially tricky if you are a lone parent. However, this can still be achieved with a bit of planning. Even if it is just one night a month, you will soon see that it is worth the effort.
When I have time with just one of my children I try to make it a real treat for them and make sure that we do what they enjoy so that they can really look forward to our time together and hopefully cherish the memories for years to come.
When having time with your child you need to make sure that there are no distractions, so no checking your phone and logging into social media or receiving texts or phone calls, as you want your child to know that you are completely focused on them.
It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either as there are many low-cost ways that you can enjoy time together at home like the recent girly night that I had with Faith.
Some of the things that I have done in the past with my children during one on one time include;
- Girly nights
- Shopping trips in town
- Lunch or dinner out somewhere nice
- Soft play
- Cooking a meal together and eating it by candlelight
- Board game night
- Crafting night
- Computer games night
- Picnic at the beach or park
- Scrapbooking night
Even teenage children like to have this time, one on one with their parent, even if they roll their eyes when you first bring it up! They like to pretend that as they are ‘grown up’ it would be ‘uncool’ to hang out with mum, but really they need that time with you just as much as a small child does, sometimes even more.
Do you make the time to spend one on one time with each of your children? I would love to hear your thoughts.
