If you are looking to try and be as happy as possible in life, there are so many things that you might want to think about. One of the most important of all, however, is to make sure that you are fully aware of what your purpose in life is. Then to direct all of your energies into fulfilling that purpose. Whether or not you have started on this journey already, it is never too late to do so. You will find that even just getting started can really make a profound difference. Let’s take a look at how to identify your purpose and ultimately turn it into a reality.
What’s Your Passion?
One of the first things you will need to think about when you are trying to identify your purpose is what your passion really is. Without knowing your passion, you can’t really expect to know what your purpose should be, as they are so closely related. So how do you go about discovering your passion? It’s actually quite straightforward, although it can seem impossible if you happen to be particularly out of touch with it or with yourself.
To find your passion, take a look at what you tend to do in your spare time. You can discount things which don’t actually take up any mental energy, such as watching TV. But if there is a clear hobby that you tend to take part in without even realising that you do so, that is often a good indicator of what your passion might be. It could be writing, painting, or it might be something completely unique to you. Spend as long as you need to identify this, as it is so important to get it right.
How Do You Want To Spend Your Time?
Another useful way to look into this and try to get to the bottom of what your purpose should be is to look at how you would ideally like to spend your time. Imagine for a moment that money is no object and you can do literally whatever you like with your time. What would that be? You might instinctively answer that it would be something like eating ice cream in bed – but look beneath these answers. What would you most be happiest doing with your days, every day?
If you can imagine something that would keep you entertained and fulfilled day after day, you have landed upon the one thing that you should probably be aiming to do with your life. Now all you need to do is to actually find a way to make that dream a reality. And a good first step there is to stop thinking of it as a dream.
It’s Always Possible
Whatever it is that you think your purpose might be, it’s important to remember that it is always technically possible to achieve it. As long as you think in these terms, you are going to find it a lot simpler to start to chart your course towards that dream coming true. Whereas, if you always look on it as an impossibility, you are going to find that it proves to be the case. It’s not always easy to make this mental change, but it’s something that is absolutely worth working on for the sake of making your life what you want it to be.
If you are struggling with this, it can be helpful to break it down into its constituent parts. Once you can see it in that way, you can see that it is merely a series of steps that you need to take, and it suddenly becomes much more manageable and achievable.
Planning It Out
That leads us on to the next point – that you need to have a strong plan if you are going to achieve your wildest dreams. That plan needs to include as much information as you can possibly include so that you are considerably more likely to get there. That means knowing what the usual path is, what yours might be and how it might differ, and what possible pitfalls there might be. Of course, you should also plan for any potential solutions to those pitfalls, if you can think of any.
If you have it planned out strongly enough, you are going to know what your next steps are at all times. But also bear in mind that a good plan is flexible, in that you need to be able to change your mind if you are going to make it a reality, which can happen if things get in the way. So be sure to return to the plan time and time again, and keep it updated with new information and even new minor goals along the way.
Making It Possible
No matter what your purpose is, there are always going to be some tried and tested ways to make it more of a possibility for you in your life. One of those is money. If you can secure yourself financially but with enough free time to pursue your dreams, then you are going to find that this really helps you to make it a possibility. Along the way, you might have to get money in many different ways, from dead-end jobs to secured loan options, but it is something you have to think about nonetheless.
Another important part of making it possible is to overcome your own mental barriers to success. In many ways, this can be even more difficult than the money side of things.
Free To Change Your Mind
Remember throughout all of this that if you happen to wake up one day with a fresh new idea for what you want to do in life, you should absolutely feel free to follow that instead. While it would not be advisable to merely chase dream after dream and never get anything done, it is perfectly acceptable to change your mind, and you should not necessarily view that alteration as a failure.
