D is for Date Night: Relationship A-Z

She never stopped loving the man who never stopped dating her (In fact, they stayed married and lived happily ever after) -Unknown.

Making time to still have date night when you are in a long term relationship is really important. It can be difficult when you have been together for a long time and you are busy with work, bills, kids and all of the stresses that modern living can bring.

However, if you do not take time to connect with your partner then it will be hard to maintain the relationship. You need a bit of time to focus on each other and have fun together. It’s also nice to dress up for each other and remind each other why you chose each other in the first place.

man and woman lying on bedWhen we have date nights we have a rule that we will not talk about the kids or our finances! Conversation should be about other things, like it would have been when you first started dating. When the kids were little we would have date nights at home as they would go to bed early so we could take turns cooking a nice meal and watch a movie or play a board game. That way, we did not have to worry about babysitters.

When the kids got older, it became more difficult to have a date night at home as the kids would be up later. We still have date nights at home when we need to save money or if we don’t feel like going out, but we have to have it in our bedroom. All the kids know that if we are having private time in our room they do not disturb us unless there is an emergency!

The whole point is that you both commit to taking that time to be together and focus on each other and your relationship.

It doesn’t matter what you are doing for date night – It matters who you are doing it with. -Paula Rollo
